Transforming Salesforce Development with ArtificiaI Intelligence
AI-Generated Transformation
How will generative AI such as GPT impact Salesforce roles? Will it replace jobs or change them for the better? Elements answers these questions in its presentation, The Ultimate Guide to AI & GPT for Salesforce Org Management. It covers:
An introduction to generative artificial intelligence
What it can and cannot do today
What it could do in the future
The impact of generative AI on Salesforce roles
ElementsGPT, a new product to transform development on Salesforce from discovery to DevOps
Generative AI takes a prompt specifying what content to generate, including its format. For example, prompting ChatGPT with, “As a business analysis blogger, define generative AI succinctly in one sentence,” produces the following:
Generative AI is a powerful branch of artificial intelligence that can create original, often complex, outputs such as data, text, or patterns, thus providing innovative solutions to enhance business strategies and operations.
OpenAI has pre-trained GPT to generate sensible text from a vast range of sources, giving it broad appeal. However, it’s only one instance of generative AI. New AI models will emerge pre-trained in specific domains, such as Salesforce best practices.
AI Will Improve Your Job, Not Replace It
The presentation made a compelling point: AI is good at tasks - not jobs. It will not replace business analysts, developers, or admins, but it will transform their careers. AI can take over low-value tasks so stakeholders can focus on high-value objectives. AI currently needs human prompting to get started and “guidance for tasks that require creativity, ingenuity, and strategic thinking.” Additionally, a person needs to validate AI-generated content.
AI’s Impact on Salesforce Roles
Generative AI will accelerate and improve content creation for technical stakeholders like business analysts, developers, and admins. Beyond that, AI-powered apps will emerge using organizational knowledge to create and validate specific content, including code.
The presentation listed examples of AI’s evolving impact on different development roles:
Role | No AI | Generative AI | Al-powered apps |
---|---|---|---|
Business analyst | Review requests and document requirements | Review requests and document requirements (faster) | Analyze and document business processes |
Architect | Design solutions Teach & uphold best practices | Design solutions Teach & uphold best practices | Analyze and document architecture |
Conversational decision guides | Train AI on your custom standards | ||
Developer | Create code | Create code (faster) | Provide detailed specifications and instructions |
Admin | Build low-code and no-code solutions | Build formulas (faster) and start to code | Document configuration and provide end-user guidance |
Business analysts will still meet with stakeholders and elicit business needs. Architects will continue to make design decisions. Developers will solve problems with code. Admins will keep taking user requests and solving problems with or without code.
Improving Development with ElementsGPT
The presentation introduced ElementsGPT, which will transform technical stakeholders’ jobs with improved work products. Xavery Lisinski, Elements Product Vice President, demonstrated creating user stories from a process diagram, including acceptance criteria.
Xavery also showed how an admin could ask Elements about their org’s metadata. The screenshot below asks ElementsGPT, “Are there any objects that store customer requests and/or issues or bugs?” It specifies an output format, “List any found metadata as separate bullet points with label and API name.” ElementsGPT answers with a bulleted list of five objects that answer the question.
ElementsGPT can also answer questions from the Salesforce Well-Architected knowledge base.
Exciting Changes Ahead
Generative AI has tremendous potential, which makes it exciting. We are only in the beginning stages of useful generative AI in 2023.
While generative AI won't replace jobs, they are expected to significantly change by relieving knowledge workers from low-value tasks, enabling a greater focus on high-value objectives.
The presentation introduced ElementsGPT, highlighting its potential to refine technical stakeholders’ communication and deliverables. It will create user stories from a process diagram and respond to inquiries about an organization's metadata, ushering in a new era of efficiency and productivity in Salesforce org management.
Generative AI will transform Salesforce development and customization, starting with ElementsGPT.
